The
2 + 4 Medical Program requires students to be admitted and be dual-enrolled for the first two years in an approved college in the United States with a deferred admission to the
medical school program in Europe. Students will complete a specific curriculum during the first two years and then transfer to the
medical school in Europe to complete their
medical school degree. Admission to this program is predicated upon the student’s independence, adaptability, maturity and passion for medicine. There is no stated class rank, grade point average (GPA), or standardized test scores from the
ACT or the
SAT Reasoning Test required to be admitted into this program. Rank and GPA are taken in the context of the quality of the high school attended and the courses taken by the applicant. Each high school is unique and varies greatly in the depth and breadth of the curriculum, therefore each applicant will be reviewed holistically by the medical school admissions committees. The
International Medical Program admissions committees pay closer attention to commitment, dedication and motivation to pursing a degree in medicine. Years of experience have shown that success in
medical school does not depend purely on objective measurements of a student’s previous academic performance, but also on certain innate personality traits.
Students considered most admissible will have pursued a curriculum in high school that includes 4 years of laboratory science in biology, chemistry, and physics, 4 years of mathematics and shown reasonable success in these courses. The more challenging the curriculum, the better prepared the student is for success in this program. Applicants will also need to include a personal statement that provides an opportunity for the student to illustrate a confirmation of commitment to a medical career.
Once a student's application has been reviewed by the admissions committee of both the United States and European universities, and has met the initial admission criteria, the student will be invited to
Source America in Chicago for a personal interview. This may include oral discussions and written evaluations to evaluate problem solving skills and coping / stress management skills. This interview explores students' capacity to meet challenges posed not only by the rigorous curriculum, but also the students’ adaptability in new circumstances and surroundings.

The
2 + 4 Medical Program offers much more than a medical education. It is a catalyst for rapid personal growth and self-realization. Thus the personal assessment is conducted to assess maturity, emotional stability and ability to deal with challenges or disappointments. Ideally, we are looking for the applicant who tackles the problems in life head on, deals with the trials of life and living, and looks on problems as challenges and the sound of potential defeat as a call to action.
In general the admissions committee will look for applicants with a 3.0 GPA, most specifically in the math/science curriculum. Students not presenting a 3.0 GPA will be evaluated based upon upward trend, motivation, personal interview, personal statement and recommendations.
ACT and
SAT Reasoning Tests are not required for admission to the
2 + 4 Medical Program, notwithstanding the admission requirements of the partner college that the students will enter for the first two years. Additionally, the Medical College Admission Test (
MCAT) is not required for admission to the
2 + 4 Medical Program.
