Many parents and even seasoned professionals in the field of education were initially skeptical of the depth and breath and credibility of medical programs offered in Europe. However, after visiting several of the programs in Europe, they now whole-heartedly support and recommend the medical degrees available for students through Source America. Many meetings with the faculty and students of the
medical schools have been fruitful and informative. Moreover, in-depth reviews of the statistics of the success of past and current students who are completing their degrees help to clarify some important points. Namely, that these are: genuine and well-established universities; with thousands of students; and genuine hospitals with thousands of beds; providing a real medical education, in less time, at a fraction of the cost.
Source America has over a decade of experience in application processing, student relocation and international program oversight, and can be the stepping-stone for many of our future doctors in the United States. America is facing a shortage of MD’s in the near future, and it is possible through
Source America to allow our own children to fill those positions. Healthcare is a very personal profession – and although we can import technically skilled healthcare professionals from overseas, they don’t always understand the cultural and social aspects of treating American patients.
Our International Medical Program offers the following solutions:
Accessibility
As a society, we rely too heavily on standardized testing to evaluate students’ intelligence. There is little, if any, correlation. Europe’s holistic picture of a student allows more accessibility to their higher educational system with no
MCAT requirement but the same rigor of a medical school program in the United States.

European Medical Schools have a holistic approach to evaluating applicants |
| (+) |
Evaluations do not focus on standardized testing. Specifically, no MCAT required |
(+)
|
Instead, the European system takes a broader view of applicants including performance trends, personal statements, sealed letters of recommendation and personal interviews. |
(+)
|
The European School System is well-funded, therefore they have the ability to expand facilities in order to accommodate larger numbers of students |

Time
Six years instead of the conventional 8 years in the United States

The European Medical Education in each city in each country in the EU is a 6 year program |
| (+) |
Students studying in Europe begin their medical education after secondary school (high school) |

Compared to their American counterparts, European Graduates from these medical programs save something money cannot buy – 2 years of their lives. |

Cost
Students save tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of dollars. Tuitions in Europe range from 4 to 12 thousand USD per year.
| (+) |
Generally, European Medical schools are much less expensive than American Medical Schools. |
| (+) |
In Bulgaria, Medical School tuition ranges from $5,000 to $6,000 per year (not per semester). |
(+)
|
This makes it financially possible for many families to provide their children with a fully-accredited, 6-year Medical Education |

Practice
Due to the legal situation in the States (malpractice and liability issues), students – for the most part - do not get ’hands-on’ training in the States, such as delivering babies or doing surgery. In Europe and the rest of the world, students get a hands-on experience from the very start. This translates into more confidence and better skills later in their careers.
| (+) |
European Medical Schools provide students with a practical education |
(+)
|
European Medical Students get valuable and useful ‘hands-on’ experience that their American counterparts do not get until after graduation, in residency. |
(+)
|
Since medicine is a ‘hands-on’ profession, this is logically the most effective way for students to learn – just think about it. |

International Recognition
Because these universities are in the EU, graduating in one country is equal to graduating in any other EU country – the diplomas/degrees are accepted across Europe. This international freedom to practice medicine is not afforded to US graduates. Of course, because the universities are listed by ECFMG in the IMED, the grads are able to sit for their US boards and join US residencies as well.
(+)
|
After successful completion of the Board Exams (USMLE), European Medical Graduates’ degrees are recognized in the United States. |
(+)
|
Thus, European Graduates can practice anywhere in the EU (European Union) countries or in the U.S. after passing the USMLE and completing a residency |
(+)
|
This European Medical Degree enables graduates to play a more active role in International Healthcare, such as WHO - World Health Organization, Doctors Without Borders, and Red Cross. |
